אוכל ישראלי - MATIAS HERRING IN SOUR-CREAM AND APPLES - Israeli food

 
A wonderful appetizer for SHAVUOT and any other day.  I have tasted it years ago  in a Viennese home of a friend and fell in love with it ....

INGREDIENTS :
 
     -    3 fillets of Matias herring  
     -    3 large green onions / 1 small onion sliced along
     -    1 large apple, peeled and cut into small pieces
     -    2 cups of sour cream
     -    1 full tablespoon of lite mayonnaise
     -    3 bay leaves
     -    3 allspice
     -    1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds or mustard
     -    Pinch of sugar
     -    2 tbsp vinegar

 PREPARATIONS :
 
     -    choose - to reduce saltiness you can soak the herring in water for a few  
          minutes, rinse and dry 
     -    Mix all the ingredients gently
